Who is homeless ted williams

The former radio announcer was trying to piece his life back together after it was ravaged by drugs and alcohol. Williams' dream of getting off the streets and back in front of a microphone unexpectedly came true when a Columbus Dispatch reporter noticed his sign, which pleaded for help and boasted about Williams' "God given gift of voice. The Dispatch posted a video of Williams' attention-grabbing baritone voice — and overnight, Williams went viral. Now, nearly five years later, "the man with the golden voice" has another dream: to give back to the homeless community in which he once languished.

And there's nothing worse than being incarcerated and not having socks, let alone being bothered by the elements, the cold weather and all.

He envisions a laundromat where volunteer attendants wash and dry homeless people's clothes so they have a shot at getting back to work, like he did. His surprise road to fame has had its bumps. He celebrated four years' sobriety a couple months ago, but his path to getting clean was punctuated by depression, failed attempts at rehab and bad business relationships. A month ago, Pepsi debuted a new ad voiced by Williams, which is running now and will run during the Super Bowl.

He particularly enjoys speaking to children. Over the summer, he briefly considered launching a presidential bid as an Independent, but later decided he could make a difference in other ways. This video has now been the catalyst of creating a worldwide sensation. What came of this video was nothing short of astonishing. After this video was posted, job offers came pouring in and people rallied to find jobs for him. Perhaps the biggest story was that the Cleveland Cavaliers not only offered him a full-time job for voice-over work, but offered him a house as well.

Once his newfound fame hit across America, one of Williams' first talk show appearances was with the CBS early show. In the interview, Williams discussed his sudden fame, the chance to see his mother again, which was being planned for shortly after the interview, and how he had found God in the past year and tried to continue on a road out of where he was.

A day after Williams interviewed with the Early Show, they interviewed his mother, year old Julia Williams. She noted that God had answered her prayer that he finally seemed to be doing well and was rebounding. She had been worried about him, especially after seeing the original video of him and the sign. Ted Williams was scheduled to fly to New York to take part in the Today Show and meet up with his mother, after having not seen her in about 20 years.

There was just one problem with that. He could not board the plane originally yesterday because he did not have identification. Williams was able to get to the courthouse and was able to get on a plane. Alas, most homeless in fact don't carry anything, and re-establishing identity can be difficult, particularly if one was homeless a long time.

Julia Williams, meanwhile, was brought to the airport by the CBS crew, hoping to get a reunion there. NBC would have none of that, wanted the feel-good story for themselves, and whisked Ted away to the studios. CBS, likewise, would not give up the mother. Customs and Border Protection, "Officers noticed that [his] bag was heavier than normal and found that it had a false bottom.

Despite the alleged crimes, The Man with the Golden Voice still holds his ex-manager in his thoughts and prayers. That's why, after a long journey of highs and very low lows, Williams was overjoyed to get back on the airwaves in His show, titled The Golden Voice Show , was a bit talk radio and a bit gospel music.

Additionally, this new gig was actually Williams' very first steady job since Were his employers nervous about hiring him back because of his checkered past? Not at all. The Man with the Golden Voice also has a golden heart; Ted Williams is committed to giving back to the homeless community he was once part of. According to an interview with Oprah: Where Are They Now , Williams frequently volunteers at homeless shelters like Friends of the Homeless, which is one he used to frequent.

Williams is also helping the homeless in another way: giving out clean socks. Additionally, Williams believes that being homeless himself called him to this duty. And I want my grandkids to look on YouTube and see some of the things that their PawPaw was proud of. Ted Williams might not be lucky in most things, but he does seem to be lucky in love. The Man with the Golden Voice has a long-term girlfriend named Kathy — super long-term.

According to an interview Williams gave on the Tamron Hall Show , he and Kathy have been together for "over 30 years. She was also there with him on his viral rise to fame and his subsequent success. Like when, as per a report from Entertainment Tonight , they got a condo together just one short year after the Man With the Golden Voice video came out.

As of this writing, Williams and Kathy are going strong. But that doesn't seem to deter their love, as Williams joked, "It's cheaper to keep her! When people think of Ted Williams they might not think "father. According to Today , Williams is actually father to nine children: two boys and seven girls. And, as per a report from Good News Center , he also has 16 grandkids. It couldn't have been easy for Williams' children to see him living on the streets and in the throes of substance abuse, which is why it makes sense that they had strained relationships.

A prime example would be the time Williams was arrested in Los Angeles because he had a heated altercation with one of his daughters via E! But, like so many other parts of his life, Williams was able to turn things around. Now she's married and I was able to be a part of that. This interview led to a few sad revelations, including that Williams is once again homeless.

The Man with the Golden Voice also listed a few reasons as to his homelessness. Despite not having a place to call his own, Williams is not out on the streets. He's living with his "dear friend Mark Henderson," and is "still hoping things have another turn around. From achieving his childhood dream of becoming a radio DJ to losing it all to drugs and homelessness — and then winning it all back just to lose it again — no one can argue that Ted Williams hasn't lived one heck of a life.
