The TW3s come in both a dual 4 ohm and a dual 8 ohm voice coil. The TW3 is the exception to the thin-profile rules and delivers W3 size output in a super small footprint. The W6 subwoofers need very little air space given their mounting depth, size, and power handling. These subwoofers hit hard and are tighter and punchier compaired to a W7, if power is the same. The W6 is actually our favorite of the JL subwoofers and what we put in our own cars.
That quick, hard hitting, feel it in your chest is a good example of where the W6 shines. The JL Audio W7 is widely considered the best car audio subwoofer in the world. These handle the most power amoung all of the JL Audio car subwoofers, and they hit hard, they are very accurate, and they are very smooth. When comparing the W7 to the W6, the W7 will handle more power, go lower, play more accurate, and be smoother. The W6 is going to be punchier and quicker when compared, side by side.
All of that comes at a price though. The W7s are not cheap. They come in single 3 ohm voice coils so make sure your amplifier has the power at 3 ohms to give the W7 what it wants.
If you are on a budget, or you know you don't need a ton of bass, just some bass, the JL Audio W0 is perfect. The W0 is the gold standard among entry level, car audio subwoofers. These subwoofers are overbuilt, they perform, and they last. Simply put, the W0 is simply the best at delivering great bass response without breaking the bank, and without needing a bunch of power.
Whether you have a single cab or a crew cab, the TW3 is perfect. You can easily install these subs underneath the rear seat if you have a crew cab. If you have a single cab, a TW3 will fit behind the seat and give you the bass response you want while neatly tucking out of the way.
These subwoofers handle decent power and are rated at W RMS. This will give you serious output while still maintaining all of the space and functionality of your trucks interior.
Important Factors Power Handling The power handling of the subwoofer is one of the most important factors when determining the best JL Audio subwoofer. However, if you have a watt amplifier, you want somethign that is going to handle some power to ensure that you don't cook your subwoofer and a W0 or even a W3 might not be enough.
Keep in mind though that your amplifiers power is distributed among all of the subwoofers connected to it. For example, if you have a watt RMS amplifier and you have 2 subwoofers connected to it, that is watts per subwoofer. If you have 4 subwoofers connected to it, that is watts per subwoofer. The larger, more expensive subwoofers that handle more power usually have a larger magnet, a deeper basket, and require more mounting depth.
At the same time, if you have a full-size vehicle and a massive trunk, you probably don't need to worry about mounting depth as you will have the space for a large box. However, just because you have the space for a large subwoofer box doesn't mean you necessarily want to devote ALL of your trunk space to your subwoofers. You may want to have both bass and storage space and there are several solutions from JL that will give you just that.
Every car needs more bass and while many might argue that there is not such thing as, "Too much bass," there might be, depending on the music you listen to and your personal preferences. If you listen to classic rock, which typically doesn't have a ton of bass, or if you prefer accuracy, a hard-hitting W7 might be waaay too much. It is important to take your budget into consideration when determining the best JL Audio subwoofer. If you can't afford a higher end model, and you can't afford the amplifier to power it properly, you will be much better off with a W0, W1, or W3 vs a W6 or a W7.
If you spend all of your budget on a W7, and you don't have enough left over to buy an amplifier to give it enough power, you have wasted your money. The JL Audio W6 subwoofers are amazing and give you unreal output, they don't need a ton of airspace, and they are extremely accurate. The W6 doesn't really fall into a "best" category other than the best JL Audio subwoofer that is better than a W3 but more affordable than a W7.
With JL Audio subwoofers, you get what you pay for. The W6 is better than the W3, it isn't better than a W7, and it is priced between the two models.
The JL Audio W1 subwoofers provide better output than the W0 and they are available in both single 2 ohm and single 4 ohm voice coils. However, the power handling and price point of the W1 make it hard to justify over the W0. If you select a single 2 ohm, W1 subwoofer, you can get more from your amplifier than the single 4 ohm voice coil of the W0. However, the price difference of the W1 versus the W0 is not worth it in our opinion.
The TW1 subwoofers are technically, thin-profile subwoofers, but they aren't that shallow. The lucky few who have heard a great subwoofer, well-integrated into an audio system, know that the subwoofer's effect is profound. While everyone expects the bass extension to improve, most are shocked at the transformation that occurs in the main speakers. They simply open up, delivering improved dynamics, superior imaging and more low-level detail.
Many describe it as the greatest speaker upgrade they have ever made. A higher wattage level is often an indicator of more powerful bass notes with the inch variety normally considered the best option.
For inch car subwoofers, watts is a starting point; however, that number can be higher depending on the subwoofer make and model. Anything lower than watts in a car subwoofer is considered not as efficient when it comes to delivering better bass quality.
Higher bass frequencies usually require more power as compared to treble or mid frequencies. Car subwoofers are not all about size and design. Frequency response is another important factor to consider to ensure you get the most bang for your buck. The average frequency range of a car subwoofer is around 20 to Hz.

At the end of the day, it all boils down to the brand of the subwoofer. When choosing from any of the high-end brands such as JL Audio, there is no need to fret whether to get a single or dual voice coil as both make the subwoofer perform at optimal levels. For those of you who do not know, the sensitivity level of a car subwoofer is measured in decibels or dB; the higher the dB of a subwoofer, the more efficient it is going to be to amplify those lower frequencies.
When comparing car subwoofers, it is critical to remember that the subwoofer with a rating of 3dB will require half the power to produce the same level of output compared to a subwoofer 3dB lower.
The impedance of a car subwoofer refers to the ohm rating. Ohms measure the impedance or the flow of current in the subwoofer. More ohm ratings usually mean a greater load impedance and result in a lower amplifier output. To get an idea of what this means, a car subwoofer producing 2 ohms will produce more power compared to a subwoofer with 4 ohms. This is mainly because a subwoofer with lower electrical resistance can produce a higher sound quality than one that has to deal with more electrical resistance.
